The San Francisco 49ers have no choice but to pursue a trade for a wide receiver this season.
Prior to the start of the 2026 season, the 49ers said Ricky Pearsall would miss the entire year due to knee surgery. Second-round pick De’Zhaun Stribling was supposed to step up at wideout, but he went down with a serious ankle injury in Week 1.
To make matters worse for the 49ers, they lost Deebo Samuel to a hamstring injury this past Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. With the former All-Pro expected to miss multiple games, San Francisco has no choice but to swing for a playmaker.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the 49ers could make a trade for Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jauan Jennings.
Back in May, the Vikings signed Jennings to a one-year deal worth up to $13 million. He earned that contract by racking up 643 yards and nine touchdowns for the 49ers during the 2025 season.

Unfortunately for Jennings, he hasn’t done much at all for the Vikings. He’s been targeted just five times (two catches for nine yards) since the start of the season.
The 49ers would revitalize Jauan.
Jennings had a great run with the 49ers from 2020-2025, hauling in 210 passes for 2,581 yards and 22 touchdowns.
During the 2023 season, Jennings played an integral role for the 49ers in the Super Bowl. He had four catches for 42 yards and a touchdown. The veteran wideout even threw a touchdown pass to Christian McCaffrey on a trick play.

If the 49ers acquire Jennings, he should see an immediate boost in targets.
