Jacoby Brissett Is No. 26 in New QB Rankings, and Sunday at the Rams Could Decide His Job

Jacoby Brissett threw for a season-high 292 yards and three touchdown passes Sunday, and the national view of the Arizona Cardinals quarterback still got worse. Fox Sports’ Henry McKenna dropped him from No. 23 to No. 26 in his Week 6 QB rankings, behind Bo Nix and Jameis Winston and just ahead of Daniel Jones.

McKenna frames his list around one question: “What have you done for your team lately?” For Brissett, the answer was a 45-21 home loss to Detroit in which most of his production came after the game was decided. Arizona is 1-4, and coach Mike LaFleur has already had to explain why he is not benching Brissett for rookie Carson Beck. A week earlier, NFL.com’s Nick Shook had him at No. 27 in his QB Index, so the low placement isn’t a one-outlet opinion.

The Rams trip could settle the question

The odd part of Brissett’s fall is how well the grading sites still view him. His 83.1 overall PFF grade ranks ninth among 36 qualifying quarterbacks, and he has completed 132 of 199 passes for 1,110 yards with nine touchdown passes and five interceptions. The flip side is a 22.2 percent pressure-to-sack rate that ranks 31st, and the Lions brought him down five times. LaFleur put the blame elsewhere after the game, saying “Jacoby was not the problem. We were a problem as a team today and again, that starts with me.”

The supporting cast is thinner now. Arizona sent Marvin Harrison Jr. to Houston for a 2027 second-round pick and a seventh-rounder, a deal that reshapes the Texans’ passing game and leaves Brissett leaning harder on Trey McBride. First-round pick Jeremiyah Love managed 22 yards on 12 carries against Detroit while working through a lingering ankle issue, so the run game is not bailing anyone out either.

Sunday’s 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff at SoFi Stadium brings a Rams defense that ranks third in total yards allowed. Myles Garrett has been on injured reserve since September after knee surgery and became eligible to return in Week 6, though Sean McVay has not committed to activating him. LaFleur said the staff would discuss whether Beck should be active against Los Angeles. Another loss would make it 1-5 and drop Brissett’s record as Arizona’s starter to 2-16 since Week 6 of last season. At that point, Fox Sports’ No. 26 ranking could end up reading like an early preview of a depth chart change in the desert.
