The New York Giants have signed linebacker Malik Harrison to their active roster as they look to strengthen their defense during an injury-hit stretch. ESPN NFL Nation reporter Jordan Raanan reported the move on October 13.

Harrison had been on the practice squad but used all three permitted game-day elevations. His promotion gives New York another available linebacker after he missed the previous two games with an undisclosed physical issue.
The move comes two weeks after edge rusher Brian Burns suffered a lower-body injury. Burns’ absence has put added pressure on the Giants’ defensive front, which needs more contributors to help disrupt opposing offenses.

Harrison’s return gives defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson another option at linebacker. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound defender brings a physical presence against the run and can help New York manage its workload across the position group.
The Giants defense has navigated roster adjustments since releasing Bobby Okereke in the offseason. Adding Harrison could give the Giants more flexibility when facing rushing attacks that test the middle of the field.

However, Harrison’s activation does not solve the larger problem created by Burns’ absence. Without their key edge rusher, the Giants need other defenders to generate pressure and prevent opposing offenses from settling into comfortable passing situations.
The Giants enter this stretch at 3–1–1 after playing to a tie with Washington. They sit atop the NFC East, ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys (both 2–3) and the Washington Commanders (1–3–1).
New York’s next challenge comes against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, October 18. Harrison could provide useful depth if he is ready to contribute, particularly if the Saints try to establish their ground game.
His promotion is a practical roster adjustment, but the Giants still need healthier personnel and better defensive execution to reverse their recent slide. Harrison’s role may grow as the team works to stabilize its front seven.
