Nearly 10 squad cars from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office lined Howe Avenue on Saturday afternoon as deputies investigated a suspected homicide.

The deadly incident took place shortly before 11:30 a.m. at Prestige Wine and Liquor, 1050 Howe Ave. in Arden Arcade near the intersection with Enterprise Drive.
When deputies arrived at the scene, a 31-year-old man had a gunshot wound to his chest, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He died at the scene, despite live-saving efforts. Deputies are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle before deputies arrived, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

“Still a very active investigation,” Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Ed Igoe wrote in a statement.
