Person of interest detained in North Sacramento teen homicide investigation

A person of interest has been taken into custody in connection with the weekend fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy in North Sacramento, but no arrests have been made as the homicide investigation continues, according to police.

The Sacramento Police Department announced the development Tuesday evening, saying detectives determined the teen was shot shortly before 12:15 a.m. Sunday in the 3500 block of Taylor Street in the West Del Paso Heights neighborhood.

About 15 minutes later, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of Wisconsin Avenue, about 1½ miles away, where they found the teen suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers provided emergency medical aid until Sacramento Fire Department personnel arrived, but the teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has not released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin. Police also have not identified the person of interest.

The investigation remained ongoing Wednesday.
