Anthony Davis Trolls Luther Burden; Perkins Hypes Wizards

After the Green Bay Packers beat the Chicago Bears 31–7 on Sunday, Bears wide receiver Luther Burden III commented on a post Anthony Davis had shared before the game, a friendly jersey challenge to Dyon Brooks.

Following Burden III’s comment, Davis trolled him by saying, “Heard you ain’t wanna play today champ!” Burden III actually led the Bears in receiving yards, with 47 yards on four catches.

The Wizards forward was referring to Packers linebacker Zaire Franklin’s jab at Burden when Franklin spoke with reporters after the game: “He quit today. He didn’t wanna play no more,” according to The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman.

Burden III made himself a punch line after providing Packers Nation, which Davis is a part of, with headline material before Sunday’s game. He was asked what head coach Ben Johnson’s message to the team was heading into this week’s matchup with Green Bay.

“He wants to beat them really bad like everyone else in the room, like every Chicago fan. Beat them real bad, and make them quit,” Burden said.

With a 3–2 record, the Packers now share second place in the NFC North with the Bears and Lions, all trailing the division-leading Vikings, who at 5–0 are one of just three unbeaten teams left in the league (along with the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers).

While Davis enjoys bragging rights over the Bears, he’s preparing for a big season of his own in Washington. The Wizards made headlines this offseason by pairing Davis with Trae Young and No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa, and at least one ESPN analyst thinks the move will pay off right away.

Kendrick Perkins: Wizards Will Be a Top-Six Seed in the East

On Monday’s episode of ESPN’s NBA Today, Kendrick Perkins was asked what role No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa should play on a Wizards team that wants to win right away. Perkins said the Wizards will be a playoff team this season, and he thinks Dybantsa will thrive alongside Trae Young and Anthony Davis.

“Well, first of all, the Wizards are making the playoffs. And not the play-in tournament. They’re going to be a top-six seed in the Eastern Conference. They’re going to be one of the best offensive teams in the entire league,” said Perkins.

“And AJ Dybantsa is going to have zero pressure because, guess what? You’re playing alongside two elite, prolific scorers, Anthony Davis and Trae Young, who are going to put you in a position to be successful. Night in and night out, he’s not going to have to worry about the best defender on the other team guarding him. And when he’s put in that position, he’s going to be able to flourish.”

And when you think about Trae Young, over the last four or five years, he’s been one of the top guys in assists. He knows how to make plays for others and make the guys around him better. Anthony Davis is an underrated playmaker.”

He added, “They’re bringing chocolate back to Chocolate City. This team is for real. By the way, I love that they were willing to ruffle the feathers of the Detroit Pistons in that preseason game. They’re trying to establish their identity.

They’re trying to let the world know that they’re here. “And last but not least, Trae Young has never played with a player like Anthony Davis, an All-NBA-caliber player. It’s going to be something special. And if you’re a Wizards fan, you should be excited.”
