Officials are searching Sunday for an armed man wanted on several felony charges after he allegedly rammed a sheriff’s patrol vehicle and fired shots at law enforcement in Iowa Hill, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Derek Spencer, 44, and said he was considered armed and dangerous.
Deputies said Spencer was wanted in connection with several felonies, including allegedly pointing a firearm at people in Placer County earlier Sunday.
Deputies searching for Spencer found him in the Iowa Hill area, authorities said. Spencer then allegedly rammed a Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle and fled, prompting a search of the area.

The Sheriff’s Office said Spencer also fired shots at law enforcement officers and helicopters during the incident.
Officials urged Iowa Hill residents to lock their doors and remain inside while deputies searched for Spencer.
The Iowa Hill area is about 20 miles northeast of Auburn and 34 miles northeast of Roseville.
