Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills have started the 2026 NFL season with a road win, jumping to 1-0 after taking down C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans 36-31 on Sunday afternoon. Now, the Bills will turn their attention to the Week 2 matchup, looking to remain perfect as they face Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions on “Thursday Night Football.”

Allen got off to a great start to his ninth season in the NFL. The former Wyoming Cowboys quarterback completed 20-of-29 passes for 334 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also did it with his feet, adding six carries for 23 yards and another two scores. And Allen’s new wideout, DJ Moore, proved to be a good pickup, tallying five catches for 100 yards and a touchdown.
And with 1:36 remaining in the fourth and the Bills down 31-30, Allen led a seven-play, 96-yard drive, capped off by a game-winning 34-yard touchdown catch by wide receiver Joshua Palmer, ultimately securing the win for Buffalo.
The win over Houston marks Allen’s 26th game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime since he joined the NFL in 2018. This marks the most by any quarterback during that time frame, with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes right behind him with 23 game-winning drives since 2018.
Allen was also able to tie for the 32nd-most game-winning drives in NFL history, joining Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Boomer Esiason.
But when it comes to active NFL quarterbacks, Allen and Prescott have the 6th-most game-winning drives, behind the Philadelphia Eagles’ Andy Dalton (29), the Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Flacco (30), the Las Vegas Raiders’ Kirk Cousins (33), the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers (37) and the Los Angeles Rams’ Matthew Stafford (50).

And with his performance against the Texans, Allen also had his ninth career game with two or more passing touchdowns and two or more rushing touchdowns, the most in NFL history.
