The Buffalo Bills right tackle Spencer Brown admits the Houston Texans can make life difficult for Josh Allen. In a media press conference on Thursday via X, Brown’s opinion on the Texans’ defense highlighted their speed, pursuit, coverage and pass rush.
“Their defense is easily the top defense in the NFL in my opinion the way they fly around where they chase the ball their secondary how they cover and obviously they have 80 million dollars tied up in pass rush,” Brown said. “They’re their aggressive front and look forward to the challenge.”
Brown knows the Bills cannot repeat last year’s protection problems. Houston sacked Allen eight times and pressured him throughout the game. Brown and Dion Dawkins were both banged up during the game, which made the offensive line’s struggles even more costly. Brown now views Week 1 as an early test of how far Buffalo has come.
Alen has full faith in Brown and the offensive line. While Brown acknowledged the challenge, Allen has expressed high confidence in him.
“(Faith) is extremely high,” Allen said per BillsWire. “(Brown) is a special player.”

The Bills should lean on their rushing attack, particularly James Cook, to prevent Houston from getting into obvious passing situations.

The Texans blitzed on only 16.7% of opponent dropbacks last season, the lowest rate in the NFL, yet produced pressure on 40.3% of dropbacks, which ranked seventh. Against Buffalo last year, Houston pressured Allen on 43.5% of his dropbacks while recording seven of its eight sacks without blitzing. That is exactly why Brown’s description of an aggressive front carries weight.
Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter make the front dangerous. Anderson and Hunter combined for 4.5 sacks against Buffalo last season. The Texans went 12-5 last season and reached the playoffs, with their defense remaining the foundation of the team. The expectation is for that unit to remain among the league’s best in 2026.
C.J. Stroud and the offense remain Houston’s bigger question. Houston has tried to give him more help, adding David Montgomery and strengthening the offensive line, while also bringing in Kayshon Boutte. Still, Stroud’s playoff struggles and Houston’s need for better offensive balance remain concerns.
