Want to name a ski trail that thousands of skiers will enjoy each season? Camelback, one of Pennsylvania’s largest and most beloved ski resorts, has an opportunity for you, but you have to be a season passholder:

“Season Passholders only. We need your help naming our brand-new Double Black Diamond trail under the Stevenson!” writes Camelback. “Keep an eye on your inbox for your chance to submit a name. The passholder whose name is chosen will score serious bragging rights and a refund of their season pass.”
The new, yet-to-be-named Double Black trail was announced in September along with two additional trails on the mountain, and will run beneath Camelback’s Stevenson Express. It will connect to the existing Black Diamond Pharaoh Trail.
Advanced and Expert skiers will have three challenging slopes on the Stevenson side of the mountain once the new trail opens, bringing the resort to 10 Double Black and Black Diamond trails in total.
The other new trails include a Blue Square that branches off Cleopatra and connects to Big Pocono, and a Black Diamond beneath the Black Bear 6 lift that connects Basilisk to John Bailey.
Check out Camelback’s trail map from last season below with the approximate location of the new Double Black trail that passholders will have the opportunity to name.

Imagine rolling up to Camelback with a group of friends this season and casually dropping into the trail you named: “Yeah, I named this trail, and they liked the name so much they refunded my season pass. You could say I’m kind of a big deal.”

How much you brag is up to you, but my ego wouldn’t be able to contain itself.
As a ski-obsessed kid from Delaware, my family traveled more than two hours each weekend for turns at Camelback. It’s where I first fell in love with the sport. I was a passholder for years, and I recently revisited my old stomping grounds with my brother and Mom in tow.
So, with that in mind, and knowing full well that I can’t win Camelback’s trail-naming competition, here’s what I would name the new Double Black (I already admitted my ego can’t contain itself).
Also, in case you haven’t noticed, Camelback has an Egyptian/Desert theme across most of its trail names. My name suggestions follow that theme.
- Mirage
- Meerkat
- Roadrunner
- Gazelle
- Viper
- Ibex
- Cackling Hyena
- Mufasa
- Rafiki
Sorry, I had to throw a couple of Lion King references in the end; I couldn’t help myself.
Good luck to Camelback’s season passholders in naming the new trail, and more importantly, congrats to the resort for opening its first new trails in decades!
Big things are happening at Camelback, and following last season’s successful ski days in May, it’s safe to say I’m proud to call Camelback my OG home mountain.
