Despite losing their star quarterback early, the Seahawks banded together and did enough to secure the victory. Drew Lock filled in admirably for Sam Darnold, the defense was elite, and the pass-catchers made enough plays to get the job done.
One position group that always gets overlooked in the NFL is the offensive line. They don’t have the sexiest jobs, but you can always tell when they don’t do it well. Well, the Seahawks’ offensive line, for the most part, did its job against the Patriots.
Perhaps nobody did their job better than left tackle Charles Cross.
Charles Cross Made a Huge Difference in Week 1
Charles Cross has been the Seahawks’ starting left tackle since 2022. For the most part, Cross has done very well in the role. The team rewarded Cross with a massive extension after the Super Bowl win, so they obviously believe in him for the long term.
In Week 1, Cross showed that he was worth the extension. Against the Patriots, who have a tough defense, Cross had 27 pass-blocking snaps and didn’t allow a single sack or pressure.

This was the most snaps Cross has had without allowing a pressure in his career. It’s hard to start the season off in any better way than that.

The rest of the line did well, too. The Patriots only managed to get two sacks, and the Seahawks’ line performed in the run game as well. Seahawks’ running backs averaged over four yards per carry, and Lock had plenty of time to throw.
The hope is that Cross can continue to lead the line forward. Being in the NFC West, the Seahawks will have to play against plenty of elite pass rushers over the season.
The one spot to watch on the line is the right guard spot. Anthony Bradford was the weak link on the line last year, and he didn’t perform well in Week 1. Bradford had a 3.1 pass-blocking grade in Week 1- no, that’s not a typo- a 3.1 grade.
It will be interesting to watch how Bradford performs over the rest of the season. We know Cross will hold down the left tackle spot, but the interior has to do its job as well.
