Tacitus, a multiple graded stakes winner who finished in the money in two legs of the 2019 Triple Crown, has been sold to continue his stallion career at a private farm in Korea, BloodHorse reports.

The 10-year-old son of Tapit arrived in the country on Sept. 12. The deal to send Tacitus to Korea was brokered by bloodstock agent Yoonie Choi of International Bloodstock Associates.
Tacitus began his stud career at Taylor Made Stallions in Kentucky during the 2022 breeding season, also shuttling for two Southern Hemisphere seasons in Chile.
From two crops of racing age, Tacitus has sired 64 winners and amassed progeny earnings of more than $3.3 million.
Leading the way among his runners is Silent Tactic, who won this year’s Grade 3 Southwest Stakes and finished second in the G1 Arkansas Derby, and multiple stakes winner Tipitap. His Chilean-sired runners include Group 1 winner Sulis, and Group 2-placed Frozen Storm and Otra Vez Pituco.

During his own on-track career, Tacitus won four of 17 starts and earned $4,267,350 as a homebred for Juddmonte Farms. He gained notoriety on the 2019 Triple Crown trail after winning the G2 Tampa Bay Derby and the G2 Wood Memorial, then he was promoted to third in the Kentucky Derby following the disqualification of first-finisher Maximum Security. Tacitus followed that effort by finishing second behind Sir Winston in the Belmont Stakes.
The second half of Tacitus’ sophomore campaign saw him finish in the money in the G1 Travers Stakes and the G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational Stakes – the latter against older competition.
Tacitus became a regular presence in the handicap division ranks during the following two seasons, winning the G2 Suburban Stakes and continuing to pad his earnings with in-the-money efforts in the G1 Woodward Handicap and another edition of the Jockey Club Gold Cup, along with lucrative fourth-place efforts in the Breeders’ Cup Classic and Saudi Cup.
Tacitus is out of the Grade 1-winning First Defence mare Close Hatches, making him a full-brother to Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Scylla and Grade 3 winner Batten Down.
