A CNN personality is criticizing the group of U.S. lawmakers that came together to call out the WNBA over its treatment of Caitlin Clark.

A letter was sent to the WNBA over its Cark treatment. The letter was led by U.S. Rep. August Pfluger, the chairman of the Republican Study Committee, and it was co-signed by a dozen members of Congress. It officially called out the WNBA’s treatment of the 2024 No. 1 overall draft pick.
“Caitlin Clark is transforming women’s sports,” the letter begins. “She has inspired a new generation of young girls to participate in athletics and has become one of the most influential figures in the history of women’s basketball.”
“She is also the face of your league,” the letter adds. “Clark has significantly increased fan interest, driven record television ratings, and attracted new corporate sponsors for the WNBA.”
The letter made it clear that they are not happy with how Clark is being treated.

“Unfortunately, what they too often witness is not simply aggressive competition, but repeated acts of unnecessary physical hostility and violence,” the lawmakers wrote.
“Clark has been hip-checked, poked in the eye, and struck in the throat during games,” the letter stated. “These incidents go far beyond routine physical play, yet the WNBA and its officiating have too often failed to address these unacceptable incidents and hold players accountable.”
CNN’s Abby Phillip called out the letter sent to the WNBA
Phillip believes that it’s a racial thing.
“The problem with Caitlin Clark is that she is a superstar. She’s great at what she does. However, the attention that she’s getting from Republicans and from government seems to be exclusively because she is White,” she said.
Former ESPN host Cari Champion responded: “That’s the only reason.”
The letter, meanwhile, is urging the WNBA to do better.
“The league has an extraordinary opportunity to inspire the next generation of female athletes to pursue athletics, but that opportunity is undermined when its brightest stars are not adequately protected,” the letter reads. “Your fans deserve better, and so do the young girls who look to the WNBA as a model for excellence, sportsmanship, and opportunity.”
