The Colorado Fire, which began Sept. 1 in the area of Highway 140 and Colorado Road in Mariposa County, is still burning, though 20% contained as of Thursday morning.

The 233-acre wildfire, about 20 miles southwest of Yosemite National Park, has closed Highway 140 from Briceburg to the Bug Hostel.
The immediate surrounding areas remain under an evacuation order, and nearby parts of the Feliciano and Quartz Mountains are still under evacuation warnings.
Two firefighters have been injured in the effort to contain the fire, which still threatens 45 structures.

In a Facebook post Thursday morning, the Cal Fire Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit reported, “Minimal fire activity was observed. Firefighters continue to construct and improve handline, mop-up and patrol. The threat of rolling debris across established containment lines remains a concern for fire crews. Cooler weather and good nighttime recoveries have helped firefighting efforts.”
When the fire began, the emergency response included 14 engines, three water tenders, four helicopters, two dozers, three hand crews, for a total of 126 personnel. The response has grown to 53 engines, eight water tenders, two helicopters, 11 dozers and 27 hand crews, totaling 651 personnel.
Air tankers are also being deployed for fire suppression missions.
