Davis police find battery suspect after sweeping search, safety advisory

The Davis Police Department found a man suspected of battery on Wednesday shortly after advising the public to avoid the search area, which was near the Covell Park neighborhood.

Police later announced the end of the search, saying in an updated news release that the suspect had been located.

A female victim reported that she had been assaulted in the laundry room of an apartment complex on the 600 block of Alvarado Avenue at 12:21 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Lt. John Evans. Around the same time, the department received a call about a man matching the description engaging in indecent exposure in the same area.

Detectives located a man they believed was the suspect nearby and discovered he was traveling west. They established a perimeter around the area, Evans said. The department announced at 12:51 p.m. that the public should steer clear of the area around Covell Boulevard and Anderson Road as the search was conducted near the intersection of Anderson Road and Alvarado Avenue.

Police arrested a 35-year-old Davis resident at approximately 1 p.m. and at 1:30 p.m. the department issued an all clear message to the public. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment and may face other charges, Evans said.

UC Davis police also assisted in the search, Evans said.
