The city of Elk Grove is working to prepare its streets, sidewalks and transit facilities for extreme heat, and it’s looking for residents’ feedback on how to improve them.

Elk Grove is creating a “heat ready mobility plan” to help residents move safely and comfortably throughout the city during summer heat waves and high temperatures.
The plan is intended to “examine how heat impacts roads, transit, sidewalks, and bike routes, and identify strategies to make travel more resilient during extreme heat,” according to the city’s website.

The plan will help the city identify areas most affected by high temperatures and those that would most benefit from changes to make travel more resilient to extreme heat.

Future improvements could include shaded or upgraded public transportation stops, more shade trees along walking and biking routes and better access to air-conditioned transportation.
Residents can submit feedback to the city via an online survey. The city also held multiple pop-up workshops to solicit community feedback during the spring and summer.
City staff is expected to develop draft strategies and recommendations through the fall before returning to the community for more feedback in the winter. The final plan is expected to be completed in spring 2027, according to the city’s website.
