Six people, including a shooting suspect, are dead Tuesday following an early morning shooting in a city in south-central Kansas. The suspect called 911 and told dispatchers he killed his family.

Officers with the Winfield Police Department were called to the 400 block of West 9th Avenue in Winfield at 8:50 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from Ronald Williams Sr., 53, according to a news release from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Williams, of Winfield, told the dispatcher he “killed his family and intended to kill himself,” the news release said.
At the residence, investigators heard a single gunshot, according to the news release. Just before 11 a.m., detectives entered the residence and found six subjects with gunshot wounds. They were all declared dead at the scene.
The victims were later identified as 44-year-old Kelly L. George, 9-year-old Carol A. Williams, 7-year-old Ronald H. Williams Jr., 5-year-old Sarah K. Williams, 3-year-old Kelly M. Magee-Williams and Ronald Williams Sr.

Investigators believe Ronald Williams Sr. killed the family members before placing a call to 911, according to the news release. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after law enforcement arrived at the residence.
Winfield lies south of Wichita, around 219 miles southwest of Kansas City. Winfield, on the edge of the Flint Hills, is home to around 11,700 residents and was founded in 1870, according to the Cowley County Kansas website.
