Some Elk Grove roads will be closed Friday as Elk Grove High School holds its annual homecoming parade, a city tradition since 1964.

Road closures near the school, located at 9800 Elk Grove Florin Road, will be in effect between 12:45 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday, according to a release from the city.
Closures include Elk Grove Florin Road from Elk Grove Boulevard to Elk Grove High School; Elk Grove Boulevard from Williamson Drive to Elk Grove Florin Road; Valley Oak Lane between Vista Grande Way and Elk Grove Florin Road; Melrose Avenue; and Southside Avenue.
Motorists are encouraged to plan for additional travel time and expect traffic delays, according to the release. The Elk Grove Police Department will be on hand to assist with traffic control and detours.

An estimated 1,000 students and 500 spectators are expected to participate in the parade, according to the release.
The school first opened in 1892 at its first site on Derr Street and Elk Grove Boulevard before moving to its current site in 1964, according to the school’s website. It is the oldest high school in the city and the second oldest in Sacramento County.
