ESPN’s College GameDay Divides Fans With Austin Show

ESPN’s College GameDay welcomed longtime U.S. Senator Ted Cruz onto the set on Saturday morning in Austin, Texas.

Cruz is a proponent of the Save College Sports bill. Cruz is one of the leading voices on the bill, which is being pushed by President Trump, as well. The Texas politician and others believe that college sports are a mess and are in need of saving.

But ESPN’s College GameDay fans didn’t seem to be the biggest supporters of Cruz’s appearance on Saturday morning. Cruz was booed pretty hard by the thousands of fans in attendance. He was on the air for several minutes.

“Whole crowd came on a blitz this morning, I stayed in the pocket. Never flinched. If we don’t pass the Protecting College Sports Act I could play for your favorite team. Call your Senator!” he shared on X following the appearance.

ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ accused of ‘unfair’ segment

Some accused ESPN’s college football pregame show of treating the topic unfairly. They welcomed Cruz onto the program to push his thoughts on the bill, but they didn’t really showcase an opposing thought.

Longtime college football reporter Steven Godfrey called out ESPN on social media, accusing the network of unfair behavior.

“Just curious, @ESPNPR : Will Disney/ESPN afford @ChrisMurphyCT equal time on @CollegeGameDay ? I know fair and balanced airtime is a big concern for @BrendanCarrFCC,” he shared.

Some college football fans agreed.

“That is a great question, I guess when they have Game Day in Connecticut, he would be a great person to speak with,” one fan wrote.

Not everyone did, though.

“I don’t like Ted Cruz and putting him on Gameday was stupid however equal time rules only apply to elections. Cruz is not up for reelection this year so there’s no equal time rules that are applicable,” one fan added.
