However, it’s been an up-and-down game so far. Team USA was trailing France at halftime, before surging into the lead in the third quarter. USA head coach Kara Lawson’s decision making has sparked some debate, though.
Caitlin Clark once again came off of the bench. So, too, did Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers. The bench has contributed to just 10 points.
Fans are frustrated.

“France leads Team USA at the half while Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, and Angel Reese combine for zero points in limited minutes. Kara Lawson is actively throwing away a gold medal to protect veteran hierarchy,” one fan wrote.

“Kara Lawson has a roster handed to her to play with A’ja Wilson. By taking the WC off, A’ja let Team USA know what type of roster she wants next year for the Olympics. The Caitlin Content Army is making the case A’ja shouldn’t get what she wants next year. The CC Army is pretending to make peace w/Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers to overthrow Queen A’ja,” one fan added.
“This is all Game of Thrones Women’s Basketball edition. The CC Army is mostly bought and paid for propaganda. The CC Army probably needs a loss tomorrow more than Team A’ja. A’ja has proven her value. Beating France tomorrow with the Golden Girls probably serves Team A’ja. The whole thing is fascinating,” one fan added.
Others, meanwhile, are praising her.
“Credit where it’s due to Kara Lawson. I’ve given her *a lot* of flack this tournament but she’s absolutely won the tactical chess match in the third quarter here. Now to see if the Americans can finish strong,” one fan added.
