The Baltimore Ravens experienced one of the most unsettling moments of training camp Tuesday morning after one of their young defensive cornerstones went down with an apparent serious injury. Just weeks before the start of the 2026 NFL season, Baltimore watched as former first-round draft pick Nate Wiggins needed assistance from the team’s medical staff before ultimately being carted off the practice field.

The frightening scene immediately drew the attention of teammates and coaches, with practice momentarily overshadowed by concern for one of the Ravens’ top defensive backs. The timing makes the situation especially unfortunate, as Wiggins had worked hard to recover from offseason groin surgery and entered training camp healthy and poised for what many expected to be a breakout third NFL season.

Nate Wiggins Carted Off Following Scary Collision
According to Ravens reporter Josh Tolentino, the injury occurred during one-on-one drills.
Wiggins was matched up against rookie wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane, who ran a fly route down the left sideline while quarterback Lamar Jackson lofted a pass toward the back of the end zone.
As the two players battled for position, they became tangled and tumbled to the ground.
Wiggins immediately remained on the turf.
Tolentino reported that the 2024 first-round pick appeared to be in significant pain as trainers quickly rushed to his side before calling for the medical cart.
The young cornerback boarded the cart and was driven indoors while remaining hunched over, creating an understandably somber atmosphere around the practice field.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Ravens had not announced the nature or severity of Wiggins’ injury.

Ravens Hoping for Positive News
The injury is particularly concerning given everything Wiggins has already overcome this year.
The former Clemson standout underwent groin surgery during the offseason but had returned to full health before the start of training camp. Entering Year 3, the Ravens were counting on him to continue developing into one of the NFL’s top young cornerbacks.
Selected with the 30th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Wiggins has steadily become a key piece of Baltimore’s secondary.
After showing flashes during his rookie campaign, he took a major leap in 2025 by starting all 17 games and finishing with 76 tackles, three interceptions and 14 passes defended. His speed, length and coverage ability helped establish him as one of the Ravens’ most important defensive players.
That’s why Tuesday’s scene was so difficult to watch.
With Baltimore expected to once again compete for an AFC North title and a deep postseason run, Wiggins figures to be a major part of those plans-assuming the injury isn’t as serious as it initially appeared.
For now, the Ravens and their fans can only wait for further medical evaluations while hoping one of the organization’s brightest young stars avoided a long-term setback.
