Former NFL tight end and FOX announcer Greg Olsen is getting very involved in the youth sports world these days.

Olsen, who has young children, has become a top youth football and youth baseball coach. He hosts a podcast about the importance of youth sports – and the importance of playing multiple sports – and he posts a lot of youth sports content to his social media page.
A pregame speech from Olsen to his middle school team recently went viral, sparking a lot of debate among former players, parents and more.
Olsen is threatening to bench any player who doesn’t give 110 percent, max effort at all times. Olsen threatened the players by saying he’ll have them filling up water bottles on the bench if they don’t want to give 100 percent max effort. He says the warning goes for everyone on the team, no matter how good they are.
Olsen did not hold back.
“I don’t care who it is, you’re out,” Olsen warned of players who don’t give maximum effort in a pregame speech.
“You can go fill the water bottles up, and we’ll put somebody else in.”
Is this too harsh for middle school?
Parents are debating.
“Sounds like a coach that wants to win, having fun doesn’t make it to the big time, gotta be serious first then have fun later,” one fan wrote.
“This teaches them about how to be successful in life not just the field. Great work,” one fan added.
“I remember when having fun was the most important thing. Good to see we’re now putting winning ahead of kids mental health,” another parent said.
“Hope he gives all the young men playing time, unlike so many high school coaches that keep 1/2 of all Seniors out of every game so they can’t showcase their skills,” one fan added.
“t’s a good standard and culture to expect. He’s not asking for anything more than serious engagement with what they’re doing,” one fan added.
“Olsen is way out of line for this level. If he doesn’t immediately change, he should be terminated now,” another shared.
