Hamilton qualified fourth at the new Madring circuit after a strong qualifying session, and was on the second row with Max Verstappen. However, his race soon became a major issue as he started to have problems with the braking system on the Ferrari.
What Happened With Lewis Hamilton at Spanish GP?
During the race, Hamilton informed Ferrari that something was wrong with the brakes, saying: “I think I’m having a brake failure. Pedal is going long.”
In his final radio message, Hamilton conveyed, “I can’t brake.”
The message instantly sparked concerns as Hamilton explained that a brake pedal was moving further than it should. A change in pedal feel can be a serious safety concern for an F1 driver, especially on a track with multiple heavy braking areas.
Hamilton’s remarks followed a rough weekend at the Madring. He had been involved in a final practice accident, locking up at the final corner and hitting the barriers. Hamilton made a mistake on the final stages of Spanish GP practice, but Ferrari got the SF-26 on the second row for the start, where Hamilton lined up fourth.
