Chocolate candy sold at several major retail chains in California has been recalled because it contains an undeclared allergen.

Which candy was recalled in California? Why?
New Jersey-based Crystal Temptations treats on Aug. 31 because they contain undeclared milk.
“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said in a statement Monday, Aug. 31.
The recall includes , including 10-ounce bags, 7-ounce acrylic boxes, 10.5-ounce plastic jars, 16-ounce designer pouches and 11-ounce plastic bags.
Recalled products can be identified by style numbers and packaging shown on product labels, which are listed on the FDA’s website.
The FDA said the recall began after a TJX analyst discovered Halloween candy containing whey — a milk ingredient — had been packaged without a declaration that they contained milk.

“The investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes,” the agency said.
No illnesses had been reported as of Monday, Aug. 31, according to the FDA.
Where was the recalled Halloween candy sold?

What should I do if I bought recalled candy?
Consumers who purchased the recalled Crystal Temptations Chocolatey Eyeballs should not eat them, according to the FDA.
Refunds are not available directly at the stores where the candy was purchased.
“Consumers must reach out to Crystal Temptations with proof of purchase for a refund,” the FDA said.
