One lane of westbound Interstate 80 reopened at the California-Nevada state line as firefighters made headway on the Floriston Fire burning near Truckee, fire officials said Friday morning.

Firefighters held the fire, which was burning in steep, rugged terrain northeast of Truckee in Nevada County, to 622 acres. Containment increased to 15%, up from 5% Thursday, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection officials said.
Nearly 1,600 personnel are assigned to the wildfire, along with more than 100 engines, 18 helicopters and 11 air tankers, according to Cal Fire.
Evacuation warnings remain in place in areas of Nevada and Sierra counties affected by the wildfire. A single zone in Nevada County, NCO-E379-A, remains under mandatory evacuation, said Cal Fire.

But clear weather and relatively light winds aided air tankers, which dropped water on hot spots throughout Thursday, while hand crews and bulldozers strengthened fire lines around the fire.
Cal Fire officials at a Friday morning briefing said crews were making progress with hose lines along the fire’s perimeter ahead of the anticipated full opening of westbound I-80. Their objective, to keep the fire east of Stampede Dam Road, west of the Nevada state line, south of Ladybug Peak and north of Hinton Road.
Union Pacific also sent a fire train carrying 100,000 gallons of water to the burn area to aid firefighters. The locomotive pulling three tanker cars will support firefighting operations, Cal Fire said.
