A Sacramento County sheriff’s detective was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of driving under the influence after a six-vehicle crash in Rancho Cordova.

Richard Hamilton was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence causing injury, according to Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office booking records.
The crash was reported about 4:15 p.m. at Douglas Boulevard and Sunrise Avenue. Hamilton was driving an unmarked county vehicle while off duty when it was involved in the collision, which resulted in minor injuries, according to radio dispatches reviewed by The Sacramento Bee.
Scanner traffic indicated the crash temporarily closed lanes at Sunrise Avenue and Douglas Boulevard. One person was taken by ambulance with minor back pain, according to dispatch calls.

Sgt. Edward Igoe, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, said Wednesday that the agency would provide a statement later in the day.
Hamilton was later released from custody, jail records show. It was unclear Wednesday when he would be arraigned.
Hamilton has worked for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office since at least 2014, according to state payroll records.
