Sacramento police have arrested a suspect in connection with the attempted murder of woman who was stabbed Tuesday evening in South Natomas, authorities said.

Officers responded around 6:30 p.m. to reports of a stabbing near West El Camino Drive and Gateway Oaks Avenue in the Gateway Center neighborhood, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
Police found a woman at the Speedway gas station with at least one stab wound. Investigators said the stabbing appeared to have happened at a location nearby.

The woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where she remained Wednesday morning, police spokesperson Officer Anthony Gamble said.
Officers located, detained and interviewed a suspect Tuesday night. After what Gamble described as a thorough investigation, the suspect was booked into jail on attempted murder charges, he said.

Police said the suspect’s identity would be released later.
