Guerrero was struck by a 92.1 mph sinker from Pirates pitcher Mitch Keller in the fifth inning of Sunday’s 4-1 loss. He lost feeling in his middle and pinky fingers before walking off the field. X-rays came back negative for a fracture, with the Blue Jays confirming a right elbow contusion.

The injury, of course, adds to an already lengthy injury list for Toronto. Catcher Alejandro Kirk, outfielder Nathan Lukes and outfielder Addison Barger are currently on the injured list, among others. Sunday’s loss also cost the club starter Dylan Cease, who was removed with mild left hamstring discomfort.

Guerrero has appeared in all 53 games this season, slashing .287/.386/.372with three home runs, 22 RBI and a .758 OPS. He ranks second on the team in hits and remains Toronto’s most critical offensive piece. Lenyn Sosa replaced him on Sunday and would see increased playing time if Guerrero were to miss additional games.
