Residents in western Placer County may see smoke in the area Monday as firefighters conduct a prescribed burn and training exercise, according to Cal Fire officials.

Cal Fire and the Placer County Fire Department are partnering with area fire agencies and volunteer firefighters for the annual Fiddyment Burn, a fuel reduction project designed to improve wildfire preparedness and provide hands-on training.

The prescribed burn is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday on approximately 100 acres of grassland between East Catlett Road and Sunset Boulevard West. The burn site is located on a parcel west of the Athens Avenue and Fiddyment Road intersection, north of Roseville and west of Rocklin and Lincoln.

Cal Fire officials said the terrain allows crews to practice both direct and indirect firefighting and fire-control techniques while providing agencies an opportunity to train together in incident command and fire ground tactical operations.
Authorities advised residents that smoke may be visible throughout the day as crews conduct the burn.
