Parade, pancakes and fireworks highlight Lincoln’s Fourth of July celebrations

Lincoln’s annual Fourth of July celebration on Saturday, July 4, will bring a full day of hometown traditions, from a pancake breakfast and parade to baseball and an evening fireworks show.

Residents and visitors line downtown streets waving flags, children scramble for the best candy-catching spots along the parade route, and families spend the day enjoying pancake breakfasts, baseball and an evening fireworks show.

The day begins with the annual Pancake Breakfast from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Lincoln Veterans Hall, hosted by the Native Sons and Daughters of the Golden West. Breakfast costs $12 for adults and children ages 12 and older and $5 for children 11 and younger.

The Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Fourth of July Hometown Parade begins at 9 a.m. at Fifth and B streets in downtown Lincoln. Presented by the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce and co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lincoln, the parade is expected to draw large crowds, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early to find parking and secure viewing spots. The parade is expected to end between 10:30 and 11 a.m.

Following the parade, McBean Park becomes the center of the celebration. McBean Park Drive will be closed to vehicle traffic from 11:30 a.m. to noon, and McBean Pool will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free for children 3 and younger and $5 for all other guests.

Food trucks and vendor booths open at 2 p.m. and remain open throughout the evening. Families can enjoy the Kids Zone from 3 to 7:30 p.m., featuring inflatables, a mechanical bull and other attractions on the park’s grassy area. Live music and dancing at the McBean Park Gazebo will continue from 3 to 9:30 p.m.

Baseball fans can head to McBean Stadium for the Lincoln Potters game, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. against the West Coast Kings.

The celebration concludes with a fireworks display scheduled from 9:30 to 10 p.m., immediately following the Potters game.
