Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins Injury Update Should Worry the Bengals

Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins’ health will be a major factor in whether the Cincinnati Bengals leave Hard Rock Stadium with a win on Sunday. The wide receiver duo sustained blows in the Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Chase took a brutal hit from Ventrell Miller after Jarrian Jones pulled his mask in the second quarter. He left the field and was ruled out during halftime. Tee Higgins also picked up an adductor injury in the fourth quarter. Both were either limited or did not practice this week.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor shared an update on Chase and Higgins’ return on Friday.

“Bengals coach Zac Taylor says Ja’Marr Chase is still in the protocol. Tee Higgins: ‘We’ll see.’ [Both] Practiced some today. Both will be questionable,” Paul Dehner Jr. tweeted.

The Bengals WR duo ran routes and caught passes during Friday’s practice session. This is an upgrade for Chase, who was limited on Thursday, while Higgins worked on the team’s rehab field.

Chase caught three passes for 27 yards before exiting the game last week. He has charted 21 receptions for 212 yards and three touchdowns this season. The five-time Pro Bowler was en route to a 100+ yard performance before getting injured.

Higgins stepped up in Chase’s absence, racking up 11 receptions for 157 yards. The 2025 Pro Bowler has been exceptional this season. He has recorded 25 receptions for 401 yards and one touchdown in four games.

The Bengals hope to have both receivers on the field as they aim to bounce back against the Miami Dolphins after back-to-back losses.

Cincinnati’s Depleted Wide Receiver Room Ahead of Clash vs. Dolphins

Cincinnati’s wide receiver room is looking pretty thin heading into Week 5. Joe Burrow could be left scrambling for reliable targets against the Miami Dolphins. The Bengals are already without Andrei Iosivas, who landed on injured reserve after undergoing thumb surgery.

That puts more pressure on Dohnte Meyers and Mitchell Tinsley to deliver. Meyers showed his potential in Week 4 by catching seven passes for 82 yards against Jacksonville. He could be asked to take on an even bigger role against Miami.

Colbie Young’s return to full participation in Thursday’s practice was a positive sign. The Bengals cannot afford to have Burrow running out of options against a Dolphins team desperate to pick up its first win. With the running game already struggling, Taylor will need all the help he can get from his receiving corps.
