Juan Soto knows what awaits him when he returns to Yankee Stadium on Friday night. The New York Mets star expects to hear plenty of boos from his former team’s fans, but he made it clear that he has no problem with the reception.

Soto spent the 2024 season with the New York Yankees and helped the club reach the World Series before leaving in free agency. He then signed a historic 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets, making his return to the Bronx one of the biggest storylines of this year’s Subway Series.
When asked whether he believes Yankees fans hate him, Soto offered a measured response.
I asked Juan Soto (who will be in the Bronx tonight with the Mets) if he thinks Yankees fans hate him:
“Who knows?” Soto said. “But they know I gave my best to them. Some of them appreciate it. Some of them don’t. You can’t control that.”

The comments reflect Soto’s approach to what could be a hostile environment. Rather than worry about how the crowd responds, the Mets outfielder appears focused on what he can control when he steps into the batter’s box.

Soto returns to the Bronx in the middle of another productive season. He is batting .275 with a .397 on-base percentage and a .528 slugging percentage, along with 24 home runs and 59 RBIs in 95 games.
The Mets enter the three-game series having won four straight games, while the Yankees are trying to stay within striking distance of the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East.
That adds another layer to Soto’s return. The former Yankee will have the spotlight on him from the moment he steps onto the field, and he already knows the crowd will have something to say.
For Soto, though, the message is simple: he gave the Yankees everything he had while he was there, and whatever happens Friday night is out of his control.
