Justin Jefferson has been ruled out of the game as a result of the sprained ankle he suffered in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jefferson caught 2 passes for 32 yards in the first period of that game, but he was unable to participate after suffering the injury.

There were mixed reports after the game because Jefferson said that he could have gone back in and played against Tampa Bay, although head coach Kevin O’Connell did not confirm that assertion.

Early in the week, it appeared that Jefferson would have a good chance of playing because a serious injury was ruled out, but he did not practice this week. Since he missed practice sessions on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the Vikings decided to rule him out of the game.

The Vikings did not make a reference to Miami’s winless status as a reason for keeping Jefferson on the sidelines, but that seems like a logical reason for the action.

Since Jefferson is not playing, it will be up to wideouts Jordan Addison, Jauan Jennings, Tai Felton and tight end T.J. Hockenson to work QB Kyler Murray and get the Vikings passing game up to speed.

In addition to Jefferson, punter Brett Thorson has also been ruled out of the game. Johnny Hekker took on the punting chores last week when Thorson could not perform and he will also punt against the Dolphins.
