The driver who fled after striking and seriously injuring two teenage girls riding scooters outside a Lincoln city park was the focus of a felony hit-and-run investigation, police said Monday.

The girls remained hospitalized nearly a week after the Wednesday crash outside Joiner Park in the 1700 block of Nicolaus Avenue left them with what police called significant injuries. The girls were riding electric scooters near the park’s entrance when they were struck. The driver fled before officers arrived, according to the Lincoln Police Department.
Police had not identified the victims or provided updates on their conditions, but the mother of one of the girls struck told KCRA-TV that the impact left her daughter with fractures to her leg and skull as well as a lacerated liver.
Diliara Borisova described the collision to the television station through a translator.

“They were driving on the sidewalk and passing by the entrance of the park and the truck was driving on the road and he just didn’t make a signal that he was turning, he just turned all the sudden. Just turned. And the kids, it just was not possible to stop,” Borisova said, according to KCRA.
