Usually when longtime NFL writer Mike Florio makes a post on X, there’s an accompanying article on his ProFootballTalk website. But Commanders head coach Dan Quinn’s decision-making in the final moments of today’s game against the Giants was so bad that Florio bucked his trend.

Taking to X immediately after the 27-27 tie, which saw Commanders QB Jayden Daniels run the ball inbounds with just seconds to go and accidentally run out the clock, Florio declared that Quinn’s clock management was the biggest “end-of-game failure” that he’s ever seen. He declared that it should be “an immediately fireable offense” by the Commanders’ head coach.
“I’ve been watching football for 50 years. I’ve never seen an end-of-game failure like the one the Commanders committed. I thought the Fox bug was incorrect, and that Washington had a timeout. It’s an immediately fireable offense by Dan Quinn,” Florio wrote.
“The clock was stopped with 55 seconds left. They had a first down and no timeouts. They needed a very clear plan for how many plays to run and when to spike the ball. The failure to have that plan is on the head coach and no one else.”
The Worst Ever?
Plenty of fans agreed with Florio that Quinn needs to be punished for that mismanagement of a crucial game:

“You’re damn right it is. Josh Harris better do it now,” one fan wrote on X.
“Florio isn’t wrong here. He is 100% spot on,” wrote another.
“I hate being a fire your coach guy but with this end of game gaffe and him being a defensive minded coach while the defense is almost dead last….sigh,” a third said.
More importantly, one of Quinn’s bosses appeared to be visibly upset by it as well: NBA legend and Commanders minority owner Magic Johnson.
“I’m in total disbelief my Commanders had such poor clock management in today’s overtime game against the Giants. All we had to do was kick the field goal and we would have won the game!” Magic wrote on X.
