Rookie Luis Lara’s bases-loaded single in the 10th inning gave the Milwaukee Brewers a 4-3 comeback victory over the visiting Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.

Jackson Chourio, who finished 4-for-5, rescued the Brewers with a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth inning to tie it 3-3.
DL Hall (3-0) threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for Milwaukee, which moved nine games ahead of the second-place Cubs. Jacob Misiorowski allowed one run on four hits in 6 1/3 innings.
The Cubs squandered an opportunity in the top of the 10th when runner Seiya Suzuki was thrown out trying to advance to third on a fly ball to center fielder Garrett Mitchell. Jacob Webb served up Chourio’s homer, and Caleb Thielbar (3-3) allowed Lara’s decisive hit.
Yankees 5, Rockies 3
Ryan McMahon lined a tiebreaking double with one out in the fifth inning against his former team, Cam Schlittler pitched seven strong innings, and host New York made Aaron Judge’s return from the injured list a successful one with a victory over Colorado.
After missing 84 games with a fractured right rib, Judge went 0-for-3 and did not make any plays while handling right field for six innings. Schlittler (13-6) allowed one run on three hits in seven innings, striking out 10 without a walk as New York earned its sixth win in nine games.
Adael Amador hit a tying homer to open the third as the Rockies dropped their fifth straight road game. Gabriel Hughes (0-7) allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits in five innings.
Rays 7, Braves 1
Freddy Peralta pitched six strong innings and visiting Tampa Bay hit four home runs en route to a victory over Atlanta in the opener of a three-game series featuring division leaders.
The Rays won for the third time in four games to maintain a four-game edge over the New York Yankees in the American League East. Peralta (8-11) allowed one run on five hits.
The Braves took their third loss in four games but remain four games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East. AJ Smith-Shawver (0-2) pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on five hits.
Guardians 9, Orioles 5
Travis Bazzana hit a three-run homer and Cleveland scored in four different innings to beat host Baltimore.
Brayan Rocchio had two hits and knocked in two runs for the Guardians, who evened the three-game series by winning for the fourth time in their last six games. Angel Martinez, Petey Halpin and Patrick Bailey also provided two hits.
Pete Alonso hit a two-run home run, but the Orioles couldn’t dig out of a 6-0 hole. Baltimore lost for the seventh time in eight games.
Twins 3, Tigers 2
Kody Clemens blasted a go-ahead, two-run homer in the sixth inning and visiting Minnesota held on for a victory over Detroit.
Clemens’ 25th homer of the season made a winner of Minnesota starter Dean Kremer (3-5), who allowed two runs and five hits in five innings. It was Kremer’s second victory since he was acquired from Baltimore in a trade early last month. Josh Bell knocked in the other run for the Twins.
Kevin McGonigle’s two-run homer accounted for the Tigers’ offense. Detroit starter Drew Anderson gave up three runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Blue Jays 4, Athletics 2
Josh Smith and Kazuma Okamoto smacked back-to-back homers and Jose Soriano tossed seven strong innings to help Toronto record a victory over the Athletics in West Sacramento, Calif.
Alejandro Kirk added an RBI single for the Blue Jays, who remain one game behind Cleveland for the third and final American League wild-card position. Smith, Okamoto and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. each had two hits for Toronto, which won for the eighth time in 11 games.
Carlos Cortes and Donovan Walton homered for the Athletics, who had won five of their previous six games. Walton and Henry Bolte had two hits apiece.
Dodgers 3, Reds 2
Tarik Skubal pitched into the eighth inning, Will Smith hit his first home run since May and Los Angeles increased its winning streak to six games with a victory over visiting Cincinnati.
Teoscar Hernandez delivered a go-ahead single in the fifth inning for the Dodgers. Skubal (9-7) gave up two runs on four hits over 7 1/3 innings, and Tanner Scott pitched the ninth inning for his 22nd save.
Elly De La Cruz hit a mammoth home run and threw out a runner at home plate from shallow center field but could not prevent the Reds from falling to 0-2 at the start of a six-game road trip. Nick Lodolo (3-4) gave up three runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings.
Astros 6, Phillies 5
Christian Walker hit an early three-run homer and visiting Houston held on for a victory over Philadelphia.
Hayden Wesneski (5-1) allowed three runs and five hits over six innings for Houston. Daulton Varsho homered for the Astros as part of a 3-for-5 night, while Cam Smith also went deep. Walker finished with two hits, as did Yainer Diaz.

The Phillies rallied from a 5-0 deficit to get within 6-5 on Edmundo Sosa’s ninth-inning RBI double against Josh Hader. Andrew Painter (3-9) was charged with five runs and 10 hits in five frames. Trea Turner registered two hits, including a homer.
Pirates 9, White Sox 3
Spencer Horwitz had two hits and drove in three runs, including an RBI single in a five-run first inning, and Bubba Chandler pitched six sharp innings as visiting Pittsburgh routed Chicago.
Every starter had at least one hit for the Pirates, who won for the seventh time in nine games. Oneil Cruz and Rafael Flores Jr. paced Pittsburgh’s 18-hit attack with three hits apiece. Chandler (7-9) yielded two runs on four hits.
Andrew Benintendi and Kyle Teel both had two hits for the White Sox, who have lost four of six. Sean Burke (8-7) was hammered for seven runs on eight hits in 1 1/3 innings.
Diamondbacks 5, Royals 3 (11 innings)
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. tripled to drive in the go-ahead run in the 11th, Ketel Marte capped a two-run inning with a sacrifice fly, and Arizona extended its winning streak to four with a victory at Kansas City.
Tim Tawa socked a solo homer in the ninth to give the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead, but John Rave hit a two-out, two-run homer off Juan Morillo to tie it at 2-2. Each team scored a run in the 10th before Arizona won it off Anthony Gose (1-1) in the 11th.
Diamondbacks reliever Blake Walston (1-0) left the bases loaded in the 10th and retired all three batters he faced in the 11th. Arizona starter Corbin Burnes tossed three scoreless innings in his season debut.
Mets 7, Marlins 5
Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto and Brett Baty homered off Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara as New York defeated host Miami for its fifth victory in six games.
Mets starter Sean Manaea (5-7) was perfect through five innings but wound up allowing five hits and four runs without getting an out in the sixth. Kodai Senga yielded a run in the ninth but still earned his seventh save in seven tries.
Alcantara (13-10) gave up seven hits and seven runs in 4 1/3 innings. Jakob Marsee had three hits and an RBI for the Marlins, who lost for the fifth time in six games.
Padres 5, Nationals 4
Luis Campusano’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning capped a four-run rally that lifted San Diego to a win over visiting Washington.
Campusano knocked in Manny Machado, whose two-run single off Erik Tolman (0-1) tied the game at 4. Padres reliever David Morgan (3-1) got one out on one pitch, and Adrian Morejon garnered his third save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Andres Chaparro and Yohandy Morales hit solo homers for the Nationals. Erik Tolman (0-1) entered in the eighth with a 4-1 lead but let in three inherited runners and had one charged to him.
Angels 6, Red Sox 1
Reid Detmers pitched six scoreless innings and Zach Neto hit a two-run homer to help visiting Los Angeles end Boston’s five-game winning streak.
Detmers (5-8) allowed just one hit, a first-inning single by Wilyer Abreu. He struck out nine and walked one. Neto went 4-for-5 as the Angels got just their third win in 15 games.
Red Sox starter Patrick Sandoval (1-5) allowed four runs on 10 hits in six innings. Nick Sogard collected two of Boston’s four hits and had the team’s lone RBI.
Rangers 10, Mariners 5
Corey Seager, Wyatt Langford and Danny Jansen hit home runs as Texas routed host Seattle.
Cal Quantrill (8-5) pitched six innings to win for the fourth time in his past five starts. He allowed three runs on five hits as the Rangers won their second in a row.
The Mariners have lost four of the first five games on their seven-game homestand. The primary highlight for Seattle was a tape-measure home run by rookie Lazaro Montes in the fourth inning. Bryce Miller (4-9) surrendered four runs in 3 2/3 innings.
Giants 2, Cardinals 1
Landen Roupp threw six shutout innings, Bryce Eldridge and Christian Koss smacked home runs and San Francisco beat visiting St. Louis for the second day in a row.
Reiver Sanmartin, Carson Seymour and Joel Kuhnel (seventh save) combined with Roupp (9-13) on a five-hitter. Koss had two hits for the Giants, who will shoot for their first home series sweep of the season Wednesday afternoon when the three-game set concludes.
Cardinals starter Quinn Mathews (1-3) completed six innings, limiting the Giants to two runs on five hits. Bryan Torres singled home a run in the ninth.
