A mother bear and her two cubs were spotted in Auburn, according to the Auburn Police Department.

Police said the bears were seen near Lincoln Way and Russell Road.
The sighting came days after bears were reported elsewhere in Placer County, including Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln. The Auburn bears were not the same animals involved in those sightings.
A bear seen in Lincoln last week appeared to have traveled north after earlier sightings in Roseville and Rocklin, although police could not confirm it was the same animal. The Lincoln sightings were about 12 miles from Auburn.
California’s black bear population has remained stable over the past decade and is estimated at 49,000 to 71,000 animals, according to the Department of Fish and Wildlife. About 40% of the state’s bears live in the Sierra Nevada and its foothills.
Residents were reminded in a Facebook post from the Auburn Police Department that Auburn is bear country and encouraged them to secure garbage and other potential food sources. Residents should also bring pets and other animals indoors if a bear is in the area.

Anyone who encounters a bear should avoid approaching or feeding it and give the animal plenty of room to move through the area, police said.
If a bear poses an immediate threat to people or property, residents should call 911 or contact the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Police encouraged residents to remain aware of their surroundings and help keep wildlife wild and the community safe.
