Viking Hobby will soon close its doors at 4713 El Camino Ave. in Carmichael.
Owners Ken and Jessica Mosbaugh are bidding a bittersweet goodbye to their business and the community they love.
What is Viking Hobby in Carmichael?
“My husband started the shop 50 years ago,” said Jessica Mosbaugh, adding that he had recently celebrated his 79th birthday.
Viking Hobby was originally “kind of military oriented”, which Mosbaugh attributed to the presence of two U.S. Air Force bases in the area at the time.
Over the years, she said, the Sacramento County shop has stocked products for a wider community of hobbyists, who Mosbaugh called “all our wonderful customers.”
Why is the Sacramento-area store closing?
According to Mosbaugh, Viking Hobby is not closing because business is bad.
Instead, she said, she and her husband want the time “to do things while we still can.”

“We had tried for a few years to find someone who would buy the building and keep the shop going,” she said. “It would have been nice to find someone.”
When will Viking Hobby shut its doors?
As of mid-October, the Mosbaughs had not set a date for Viking Hobby’s last day. However, it will be before the end of the year, Mosbaugh said.
Since they announced the business was closing, friends and customers have been stopping by to say goodbye.
“I have had people come by who haven’t visited for a while,” Mosbaugh said.
Viking Hobby is open from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
