“Benessere Vineyards brought together everything that makes wine-country real estate so compelling — a storied family legacy, established operations, and an irreplaceable Napa Valley location,” Chad Roffers, CEO and co-founder of Concierge Auctions, said in a statement. “The auction process helped create meaningful engagement from qualified buyers internationally and ultimately delivered a successful outcome for all parties involved.”
Established by the Benish family in the 1990s, Benessere Vineyards encompasses more than 42 acres in Napa Valley and along the Napa River, including approximately 29 acres of planted vines, a fully operational winery, a tasting room and a total of 6,300 square feet of living space with eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms. The property also offers pre-WDO (Pre-Winery Definition Ordinance) entitlements supporting future expansion opportunities.
“Our family built something truly special here, and we’re grateful to see the estate transition to a new owner who can build upon that foundation,” John Benish, who sold the home along with his four siblings, said in a news release. “As we move on to other opportunities, we are excited to see what comes next for Benessere.”
The original Charles Shaw winery no longer exists where Benessere Vineyards is today. Charles F. Shaw started his Napa Valley winery in 1974, but when the business failed, the property was purchased in 1994 and renamed by the Benish family. Separately, Bronco Wine Company bought the Charles Shaw brand in 1995 for about $27,000.

Trader Joe’s gave Charles Shaw its national stage in 2002, turning the revived wine into “Two Buck Chuck” — bargain priced at $1.99 — that became a cult favorite.
The small, family-owned Benessere Vineyards is located at 1010 Big Tree Road in St. Helena. In Italian, Benessere means “well-being” or “living the good life.”
The property was bought in 1994 for $1.529 million, according to public property tax records.
John and Ellen Benish immediately began restoring the vineyards, winery and residence after purchasing the property. In 1995, they produced their first vintage of sangiovese. They added other Italian varietals, such as pinot grigio, vermentino, falanghina, teroldego, nero d’Avola, primitivo, montepulciano, sagrantino and aglianico.
The latest transaction marks the first completed sale through Concierge Auctions’ newly launched Global Wine & Vineyards Division. The buyer has not been identified.
