Cakes by Jeff the Chef at 405 K St. will close at the end of July, according to a social media post the business shared Tuesday.

“This decision was not made lightly, but I believe it’s the right step as I focus on the next chapter for Cakes by Jeff The Chef,” owner Jeff Taylor wrote.

Taylor did not respond to a request for comment from The Sacramento Bee about the July 31 closure.

Although the shop is shuttering its doors, Taylor said this is not the end of his business, which he launched in his hometown of Stockton. In a social media video, Taylor said he decided not to renew the lease but that more is ahead for Cakes by Jeff’s future.

“The storefront might be closing, but Cakes by Jeff is not going anywhere,” Taylor said. “Make sure you follow (our social media) and share…because I have something brewing.”

Taylor said his love for baking was passed down by his grandmother, who helped him bake cookies when he was four years old. At the age of 30, Taylor attended Le Cordon Bleu School while working as a full-time medical assistant, determined to pursue his dream of opening a bake shop, according to the restaurant’s website.

Cakes by Jeff the Chef opened in DoCo 2023.

It has been recognized nationally, winning the Food Network’s “Sugar Showdown” and A&E’s “Best in Chow.” In 2022, Taylor won third place in the California State Fair’s Food Festival.

The closure of Cakes by Jeff follows the closure in June of Tandoori Pizza, located next door to the bakery.

Cakes by Jeff is open on Mondays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to its Yelp page.
