The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman gunned down by her stalker outside a Howe Avenue restaurant as Shalini Thakur, 38, officials announced Thursday.

Thakur was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon outside a Panera Bread restaurant in Arden Arcade, executed by the man who had stalked her for months before the violence, 22-year-old Rohit Rohit.
Rohit chased Thakur before opening fire in front of witnesses. He then drove onto Highway 50 near Howe Avenue, where he was spotted by Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies before taking his own life.
Sacramento County sheriff’s officials said Wednesday that Rohit and Thakur were initially friends who worked at different businesses, but Rohit’s behavior had become increasingly bizarre beginning in January. Thakur first reported the behavior to authorities in March, sheriff’s officials said.
Sheriff’s officials said Rohit obtained Thakur’s apartment key and entered her home as she slept; attached an Apple AirTag to her vehicle to track her movements; and sent random deliveries to her doorstep in the months before her killing.

Sheriff’s officials said detectives persuaded Thakur to file a restraining order against Rohit, which she did in May.
Detectives learned Rohit had arrived at the shopping center in the 900 block of Howe Avenue in his vehicle shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday. Thakur was dropped off a short time later near her vehicle, which was already parked there, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Rohit approached Thakur and confronted her, investigators said. When she tried to run away, Rohit chased her, pulled out a gun and shot her multiple times.
