The New York Jets thoroughly dominated the Tennessee Titans, as both offense and defense did what they had to do to throttle any hopes for the Titans in their home opener.

A quick Jets position groups report card after a satisfying 23-10 win on opening day.
QUARTERBACK (A-plus) – Geno Smith perfectly managed the offense. He kept the team moving without turnovers, and acknowledged that the strong running game “makes my job extremely easy. Smith didn’t take many shots down the field, but didn’t really need to for this game. As for the future, “We think we have no ceiling,” he said post-game.
OFFENSIVE LINE (A-minus) – Smith said it all: “They dominated. Big shout-out to that O-line.” Titans terror Jeffrey Simmons was held without a sack and wasn’t much of a factor otherwise. The one down note was a holding call on center Josh Myers that negated a long TD run by Braelon Allen.
RUNNING BACKS (A-plus): On a sweltering day where the temperature index climbed into the triple digits, Breece Hall and Braelon Allen kept the chains moving. Their 150-plus yards kept the Titans offense off the field, as the Jets dominated in time of possession.
RECEIVERS: (B) A good return for Garrett Wilson, but the perfectionist in him felt “we left some plays on the field.” He promised the Jets would ‘watch the film and clean up what we got to clean up.” Tight end Mason Taylor almost had a fumble that was ruled a drop after replay review, but had a few nice catches. Kenyon Sadiq scored the first touchdown on a short end-around.

DEFENSIVE LINE: (A) – Three sacks on Cam Ward and holding the Titans under 200 yards of total offense says it all. A so-what touchdown in the fourth quarter was the only blemish.
LINEBACKERS: (A) “I think we played the brand of ball we wanted to play,” said veteran linebacker Demario Davis. As for their work on Titans QB Davis, “We were able to keep him contained,” Davis said.
SECONDARY (A) – No interceptions and injured Minkah Fitzpatrick, but they didn’t allow much to a talented Tennessee receiving core.
KICKING GAME: (B) Jason Sanders’ second kick made Jets fans pine for Nick Folk, but Sanders redeemed himself with a pair of 50-yarders later in the game. Punter Austin McNamara averaged 46.3 on three kicks.
COACHING: (A-Plus) Frank Reich called a masterful game in his first go at coordinating the Jets offense. He had a nice mix and used every weapon in the Jets arsenal, keeping the Titans guessing as to what would come next. Aaron Glenn’s defense shut down the Titans. Overall, a great start for both sides of the ball.
