NFL to Give Out Punishment Decision After Eagles-Jaguars Brawl in London

The Philadelphia Eagles and the Jacksonville Jaguars delivered far more than a typical regular-season matchup when the two NFL clubs met at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The Jags came in riding serious momentum, having won 11 of its previous 12 games to sit at 3-1 on the year, while the Eagles arrived on a two-game slide and without star running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver DeVonta Smith.

The Jaguars struck first, taking a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter before the Eagles answered and carried a 14-7 edge into halftime. By the time the teams reached the break, though, the scoreboard wasn’t what people were talking about.

During Jake Elliott’s first-quarter kickoff, Philadelphia linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Jacksonville rookie defensive end Bryan Thomas Jr. got tangled up well away from the football, turning a routine special-teams play into the afternoon’s defining moment.

Trotter took the rookie to the ground, and Thomas fired back with a kick before players and officials from both sidelines rushed in to separate them. Flags flew on both teams for the sequence, with an illegal formation penalty charged to Philadelphia’s J. Majors and a holding call against Jacksonville’s B. Combs.

Those penalties canceled each other out, but the real consequence landed on Trotter and Thomas, who were both ejected. Officials ruled the down a no-play and ordered the opening kickoff replayed from scratch.

Now, the league has a clear financial framework that could determine exactly what the fight costs both players. According to the NFL’s 2026 fine schedule, a first-time fighting offense carries a $41,907 penalty, while a repeat violation climbs to $83,815.

Thomas could be staring at an additional charge on top of that, since the league separately lists a $12,537 fine for striking or kicking an opponent, a provision that lines up directly with how he responded once Trotter brought him down.

The Eagles may feel the fallout more on the field than in anyone’s pocketbook. Trotter has been a consistent piece of the Eagles’ defense, racking up 19 tackles through four games.
