Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today

Houston Astros at Philadelphia Phillies NRFI (-120)

The Astros send RHP Hunter Brown to the mound at 5-3 with a 3.31 ERA. He’s even better in the first inning with a 2.25 ERA and 18 K’s in 16 IP. LHP Cristopher Sanchez is having a monster season with a 7.7 WAR. He’s 16-5 with a 2.58 ERA. His first innings have had some blips, but he’s generally very good as opponents have just a .289 on-base percentage. He has a 4.66 ERA in the opening frame.

Texas Rangers at Seattle Mariners NRFI (-TBD)

This one could be a little tricky, but it should come at a decent price. RHP Cal Quantrill has been sneaky good for the Rangers. He’s a 31-year-old that has bounced around and doesn’t particularly throw hard, but he’s 7-5 with a 2.79 ERA. He’s decent in the first with a 3.00 ERA and 12 K’s in as many innings. Rookie LHP Kade Anderson makes his fourth start for the M’s at 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA. He starts games pretty well, allowing just one earned run in three frames with a .100 opponents’ batting average.

Arizona Diamondbacks at Kansas City Royals YRFI (-120)

RHP Merrill Kelly has had a down year for the D-Backs at 9-13 with a 5.06 ERA. He’s not much better in the first with a 4.50 ERA, and opponents have a .352 OBP in the opening frame off him. The Royals turn to LHP Daniel Lynch at 4-5 with a 3.51 ERA between the bullpen and the rotation. He has made just six starts, but he has allowed as many runs in the first for a 9.00 ERA. This one has a good chance at getting messy early.

What Do NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?

The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, there will be a run in the first inning. It doesn’t matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
