“Roadside diners have long held a special place in the hearts of travelers, offering an enchanting blend of nostalgia and charm,” USA Today said when publishing the 2026 10Best list in May. “These delightful establishments provide weary travelers with a cozy haven to relax and savor some of the best comfort foods around.
“With diverse, affordable menus and irresistible atmospheres, these 10 diners — nominated by our panel of travel experts and voted as the best in the U.S. by readers — promise to make any road trip unforgettable.”
One of those diners is in Kansas.
Bob’s Grill named 3rd best roadside diner
Bob’s Grill, in Pittsburg, was named the third-best roadside diner in America.
“Just beyond the Kansas-Missouri border, Bob’s Grill comes equipped with a charming, vintage-style aesthetic and plenty of traditional American dishes to feast on,” USA Today said. “During morning hours, diners can spring for a Western omelet or a plate of chicken fried steak and eggs, while afternoon hours bring the opportunity to sample triple cheeseburgers, fried chicken sandwiches, and a wealth of other decadent dishes.”
Bob’s Grill describes itself as a “cozy diner” where “every meal feels like home.”

“Whether you’re craving a hearty breakfast, a greasy lunch, or one of our homemade specials, we’re here to serve up comfort with a side of playful sarcasm,” the diner’s website says. “Enjoy a cup of coffee, whether you’re grabbing it to go or settling in to soak up the atmosphere. At Bob’s Grill, we treat every guest like family. We can’t wait for you to come by and share a meal with us!”
Recent customer reviews on Google highlight the diner’s friendly customer service, reasonable prices and classic breakfasts and cheeseburgers.
“Great small counter diner experience. Excellent service. Burger & fries (handcut) on point,” one reviewer wrote earlier this year. “Some cheeseburgers save lives, this was that. Made to order right in front of your face. No frills and that’s what’s the best bout it…. human watching and banter is unrivaled. Pittsburgh staple.”
