Rajasi, a 15-year-old clouded leopard who arrived at the Sacramento Zoo in 2025, died last week, the zoo announced Tuesday.

“Rajasi was beloved by every member of our carnivore care team,” the zoo said in the announcement. In his time at the zoo, staff found him to be “a charismatic animal that loved lounging around in his tree hammock and had a fondness for goat’s milk as a treat.”
The endangered leopard developed gastrointestinal issues earlier this year, the zoo said. In July, he was diagnosed with high blood pressure and an inflammatory condition. His condition improved after he received medication, but suddenly worsened last week. He died Friday, according to zoo officials.
The cause of his death has not been determined.
Rajasi’s death came about 11 months after zoo staff euthanized Serai, a 14-year-old female clouded leopard, on Sept. 29, 2025, after her health deteriorated. Zoo veterinarians worked with UC Davis veterinary specialists to treat Serai, including removing a mass associated with her parathyroid gland.

Clouded leopards typically live 13 to 17 years in human care, according to the zoo, making Rajasi, at 15, an older member of the species.
Rajasi and Serai arrived at the Land Park attraction in April 2025 after previously living at Zoo Miami. They had produced six cubs together before coming to Sacramento, according to previous Bee reporting.
The endangered but often solitary cats are native to Southeast Asia, where their populations are declining largely because of habitat loss, the zoo said. The cats are adapted to life in trees, with long tails that help them balance and specialized ankle bones that allow them to climb down trees headfirst, according to the zoo. They also have the longest canine teeth relative to their body size of any cat species.
