A Rosemont man is dead and a woman is in custody after a shooting early Thursday that led to a standoff with Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies.

Homicide detectives found the man dead inside a home in the 8900 block of Fredric Avenue following a three-hour standoff that ended with the woman being taken into custody.
Deputies were called about 12:45 a.m. Thursday by a neighbor who said the victim’s adult son told him his father had been shot by his girlfriend, said Sgt. Edward Igoe, a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
Arriving deputies talked with the victim’s adult son and learned several people were inside the home, which is a block southeast of South Watt Avenue and Kiefer Boulevard.
Deputies set up a perimeter around the home and tried to persuade the woman, who was armed, to surrender the weapon. At some point during the standoff, she left a firearm on the home’s front porch but refused to surrender and went back inside, Igoe said.

Three adults and three children inside a backyard dwelling were evacuated unhurt by sheriff’s deputies during the standoff. Neighbors also were told to leave their homes.
Deputies later deployed chemical agents to try to force the woman out of the home. A drone sent inside spotted at least one other weapon, Igoe said.
Deputies entered the home after the three-hour standoff and took the woman into custody without incident, Igoe said.
Sheriff’s homicide and crime scene investigators remained at the scene Thursday. Igoe said the shooting remained under investigation.
