A search is underway in the Auburn State Recreation Area for a Roseville man who was reported missing after failing to return home, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

Ian Roberts, 24, was last seen at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Friday. Officials said Roseville police received a missing-person report at about 4:45 a.m. Saturday after Roberts had not returned home the previous night.
He was last seen wearing a brown shirt, dark shorts, gray shoes and possibly had a beanie. Roberts is 6 feet tall and weighs 210 pounds.
With assistance from Roberts’ family, authorities tracked his vehicle to a skate park in Auburn, where Placer County deputies located it.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team subsequently began searching the surrounding Auburn State Recreation Area.

Saturday’s search included the Sheriff’s Office Falcon 30 helicopter, a California Highway Patrol helicopter, multiple drones, 20 ground searchers from Placer County Search and Rescue and two search-and-rescue K-9 teams.
Search operations were scheduled to conclude in the mid-evening Saturday, so all personnel could leave the field before dark, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities planned to resume the search Sunday with 20 Placer County Search and Rescue personnel and an additional 30 search-and-rescue personnel from outside agencies.
As a result of the operation, Overlook Park, located at 855 Pacific Ave. in Auburn will be closed on Sunday. Officials said the park is being used as a staging and coordination area for the search.
A lieutenant assigned to the Placer County Office of Emergency Management also requested a Fire Integrated Real-Time Intelligence System (FIRIS) flight through the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services to provide additional information to search teams.
The Sheriff’s Office said its Search and Rescue team consists of highly trained volunteers who regularly assist with complex search operations.
