Former Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson made his debut on The NFL Today on CBS on Sunday and began his broadcasting tenure with a pretty hot take regarding one of the league’s most popular quarterbacks.

Earlier this morning, while talking about quarterback Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, Wilson declared that if the team struggles this season, he can envision 2026 being Burrow’s final year with the team.
“If it doesn’t go well in Cincinnati this year, Joe Burrow is gone,” Wilson said bluntly.
Not looking to hear that…
NFL fans – and Bengals fans in particular – didn’t appreciate Wilson trying to manifest Burrow leaving the team and called him out for it on social media:
“Can you at least do a little research if you’re gonna get paid to talk?” one fan angrily wrote.
“Guy is clearly CTE riddled and CBS runs him out there like a side show. Shame on you,” another mocked.

“Click bait. Who gave this guy a mic when Joe has said he’s not going anywhere several times over the past couple weeks?” wrote a third.
“Can’t believe CBS hired this guy,” Jeff Goodman wrote.
“The new CBS analyst who spent the last few years hunting for a job just diagnosed a quarterback who is signed through 2029. Russ, they didn’t hire you to narrate Joe’s exit. They hired you because Matt Ryan left.”
So maybe that’s too hot of a take for Wilson to come out the gate with.
Burrow seems completely locked in on the Bengals for the short term and the long term. And if you don’t believe it, just look at his contract. He’s under contract through the rest of the decade and is completely un-cuttable before 2029.
So unless someone comes to the Bengals with something in the range of 3-5 first-round draft picks, he’ll suiting up for the Bengals for a long while.
