Sacramentans who love their coffee already know the region is home to a wide variety of cafes serving as many different coffee concoctions are there are coffee shops. Now, Sacramento is on the list of best cities for coffee lovers, according to a ranking of cafes nationwide.

Sacramento has cracked the top 20 in a list of the top 100 large cities in the United States for the best cup of Joe. The list was compiled by personal finance website WalletHub.
The primary focus of the list was affordability and which city has the best “coffee scene,” financial writer Adam McCann wrote. Each city was graded on a score out of 100, with points based on metrics such as average spending on coffee, number of coffee drinkers per household, and number of affordable coffee shops.
The Farm to Fork city placed between Denver and San Diego at No. 16. California had six other cities that also made the top portion of the list.

The ranking measured cities by range of coffee shops and the average price per coffee.
Sacramento ranked 38th for the average amount of spending for coffee. The city placed 19th in the number of coffee shops per capita and 30th in the amount of adults who consider themselves coffee drinkers in the past six months, according to WalletHub.

Chip Lupo, a WalletHub’s analyst, wrote that Americans spend hundreds of dollars annually on coffee, with the average household spending around $327 yearly on coffee.
“Coffee has become a staple of American culture, helping people stay energized for the workday and bond with friends or dates,” Lupo wrote. “But the costs of having one or more cups of Joe daily can add up, especially as prices inflate.”
While gathering its research, WalletHub interviewed a panel of 13 coffee industry experts on the influence the caffeinated beverage has had in the U.S. Those findings contributed to the publication’s report on coffee affordability, it said.
